* Though New Hampshire permits its 13 cities to keep their polls open until 8PM, the vast majority of polling places are closed by 7PM.  New Hampshire also has the distinction of being the state of Dixville Notch and a couple other small hamlets who have the famous tradition of voting at the strike of Midnight on Election Day for presidential primaries and general elections.  These communities close their polls immediately after each voter has cast a vote.  A race ensues to see which one will be the first in the nation to report presidential election results.
