| Belated congrats to the Colts |
I didn't get a chance to post anything yesterday about the Indianapolis Colts' Super Bowl victory. I was pulling hard for
them, and it's great to see Peyton get a ring. He's a monster talent who deserves at least one. I was also touched and encouraged by the
inspirational words of Colts' coach Tony Dungy on national television after the game. While acknowledging the history-making accomplishment of
winning the Super Bowl as an African-American coach, he placed more emphasis on the fact that he and Chicago Bear's coach Lovie Smith had reach the
pinnacle of professional football by "doing it the Lord's way". Here is the heart of his post-game remarks.
| I'll tell you what. I'm proud to be representing African-American coaches, to be
the first African-American to win this. It means an awful lot to our country. But again, more than anything, I've said it before, Lovie
Smith and I, not only the first two African-Americans, but Christian coaches showing that you can win doing it the Lord's way. And we're more
proud of that.
|
It's a great testimony and an exhortation to me and other Christians to better live what we believe to the glory of our Father in Heaven. Thank
you, Coach Dungy. You are a great reflection of the power of Jesus Christ in your life.
Update: Judging from some of the comments on this post, I think I need to clarify an important point. I never intended to say, nor
did Coach Dungy imply, that God intervened in the football game and propelled the Colts to victory. What Coach Dungy refers to is his example
that living according to God's principles can produce worldly success on life's grandest stages. Of course, it does not always produce worldly
success, but the Colts victory under the godly leadership of their coach shows it can be done.
