| I am a holocaust denier? |
| A common rant among die-hard global warming enthusiasts is to confer the title of "Holocaust Denier" on anyone who disagrees with
their brand of "science." As Ellen Goodman puts is in the Boston Globe, "global warming deniers are now on a par with Holocaust deniers."
Man, that's a pretty heavy accusation - one that has even surfaced in the comment threads of this website.
Dennis Prager has a piece today at RealClearPolitics
in which he examines the psychology of those who would equate questioning politically-motivated, scientifically-suspect research that the earth is headed
for doomsday with denying the historic fact of 6 million murdered Jews. It is well worth the time to read the entire article.
Let me also say that this kind of cruel insult has no place in this debate. It brings nothing positive and makes the accusers appear to be
rhetorical bullies out to coercively silence dissention. When literally hundreds, even thousands, of well-respected, renowned scientists - experts
in this field - raise substantive doubts and questions regarding our impact on the earth's climate, reasonable souls among us should at least be willing
to reserve such malicious name-calling for those who deserve it.
One final point - global warming as a significant threat to the earth, even in the estimation of the scientists who sound its alarm, is not a
fact, whether perpetrated by humans or not. It is a consensus among those scientists in the liberal camp (and who have the favors of the
mainstream media). Sure they cite evidence, but they ignore evidence to the contrary. Unfortunately, like so many other issues, this
controversy boils down to whose conclusions you believe. And as usual, the dividing lines drawn in this debate map almost perfectly to the
ideological divide between liberals and conservatives.
