Who is winning the California 25th District election?
Posted Jan. 11, 2016 - Just north of Los Angeles lies California's 25th congressional district. It is represented by Republican Steve Knight who was first elected last cycle in a two-Republican general election battle which resulted from California's open primary system.
Even though this area has been good for the GOP, its demographics are becoming less that way due to an influx of Democrats. Still, the blue team doesn't have a particularly strong bench from which to draw an opponent for Knight. That, combined with Knight's own weaknesses in fundraising and political savvy, will serve to make this race relatively close - a battle of the least unfit, you might say.
Three of four contests in my list of competitive house races that are not rated "Weak" are in California. Of those, CD-25 is perhaps the most competitive and may tighten further as we approach the finish line. For now though, the preliminary Election Projection for this race will remain Mod GOP Hold.
- Steve Knight - Incumbent
- Jeffrey Moffatt
- Bryan Caforio
- Lou Vince - Agua Dulce Town Councilman
