By edict of The Blogging Caesar, it is hereby decreed that Arizona Senator John McCain will
be the 2008 GOP nominee for President of the United States. He will accumulate 1,191 delegates - the number of
delegates needed to secure the nomination - sometime during the primaries held in the month of March.
I hereby seal and deliver this edict today, Saturday, the 2nd of February, in the year of our Lord 2008.
Context: This edict was decreed before the contests of Super-Duper-Mega-Jumbo Tuesday, February 5th were held. At that time,
only a small portion of the delegates had been won, and Mitt Romney was still a threat to win the nomination. The essence of this edict was
not just the prediction of a McCain nomination but also the time frame in which he would accumulate the necessary delegate total.
Verdict: Compliance - With victories in Texas, Ohio, Rhode Island and Vermont on March 4th, John McCain
surpassed the 1,191 delegate mark needed to clinch the GOP nomination. The voters once again acted in accord with the edict of The Blogging Caesar.
By edict of The Blogging Caesar, it is hereby decreed that former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani will fail
to secure the Republican nomination for president in 2008. His socially liberal views and his character shortcomings will outweigh
his 9/11 leadership.
I hereby seal and deliver this edict today, Tuesday, the 11th of December, in the year of our Lord 2007.
Context: When this edict was decreed, Guiliani lead national polling over all other GOP contenders.
At the time, he had 24.4% support while his nearest competitor, Mike Huckabee, had only 18.8%. Moreover, Giuliani
had double the support of anyone in Florida, a state considered to be his "firewall" race.
Verdict: Compliance - Giuliani's campaign, in deference to The Blogging
Caesar, continued an ill-fated strategy and withdrew from the race after finishing a distant third in the Florida
primary.
By edict of The Blogging Caesar, it is hereby decreed that former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee will finish first or second in the GOP Iowa Caucuses
and will claim at least one-quarter (25%) of the vote there.
I hereby seal and deliver this edict today, Saturday, the 27th of October, in the year of our Lord 2007.
Context: When this edict was decreed, Huckabee was at 13.8% support in Iowa, behind Romney (26.3%) and
Thompson (15.0%) and in a virtual tie with Giuliani.
Verdict: Compliance - The people of Iowa complied with this decree of The
Blogging Caesar. Mike Huckabee won the Iowa caucus and received 34% of the vote.
